My Passion for the creative process started when I was a kid. I was always drawing, painting, and making music. More importantly, I was playing. I was imagining.
As I’ve gotten older and continued to pursue the creative arts as a career, I am constantly reminding myself of the things that make me most effective both as an artist and as a professional. Talent, drive, reliability, persistence and focus.
But the thing that is most important to me today is something that I mastered when I was young—“play”. The idea of “play” is what powers me as an artist and a creative professional. I don’t define “play” as a cavalier, uneducated approach to art or business. I believe that at the heart of creation and imagination is “play”. It rides hand in hand with the joy of the process, and I strive to keep a sense of play in my mind at all times. “Play” is what happens when you say, “What if we did it this way,” or “Let’s try it that way.” “Play” is the willingness to explore ideas. It’s what takes creative thinking into creative making.
My interest in creating has given me rewards and experiences that I could not have found any other way. It has made me a Writer, a Director, a Producer, a Photographer, a Musician, an Editor and sometimes an Actor. I draw on the sense of “play” in my approach to all these things. And as a result I have a portfolio that includes a feature film comedy, short films, documentary work, photography, paintings, music, writing, advertising, corporate videos, clothing design, graphic design, database programming, web design and podcast production.
